Sadanand Shirke
Sadanand Shirke, born in 1982 in Mumbai, is best known for his Mumbai cityscapes, created using geometric constructions that often depict his home city. He completed his Diploma in Fine Art at the Raheja School of Art, Mumbai, in 2007.
In the past, he has created abstract compositions using vinyl on aluminium board, drawing inspiration from Minimalism and abstraction techniques. This reflects his idea of blending new techniques with the old, while playing a significant role in redefining the art scene in Mumbai.
His obsession with Mumbai stems from the constantly moving pace of the city in which he grew up, which became a major influence on his practice. Through his art, he captures the spirit of the city and introduces its various moods through a unique colour palette, utilising neon-bright colours and depicting media-filled skies.
He has exhibited his works in various shows in India and abroad. The artist continues to work and presently lives in Mumbai.
