Sakshi Gupta was born in New Delhi in 1979 She completed her Bachelor’s in Fine Arts in Sculpture, from the Government College of Art, Chandigarh in 2001 She then went on to complete her Master’s degree in the same subject from the College of Art, New Delhi Through her works, Sakshi manages to portray a sense of discomfort and conflict that she feels in life Her choice of material ranges from a variety of eccentric options, as are apparent in her pieces She uses metal scraps, fittings and discarded factory materials to even those found readily in nature such as frons, feathers and roots It is with the beauty of these otherwise non-artistic components, that she brings them all together to form a piece of art that exudes much more than its theme It is through her able creative process that she is able to give these materials a new meaning Sakshi uses her works to comment on transformation, the hues of society and most importantly the passage of time Gupta has completed several residencies, including a community based workshop run by Khoj, New Delhi, in 2004; the Kashi Art Residency, Kochi, and one at Bangalore Artists Centre in 2006; a residency at the Cittadellarte-Fondazione Pistoletto, Italy, on an Inlaks Scholarship in 2007 and one at Krinzinger Projekte, Vienna, in 2008The artist lives and works in New Delhi
