Samir Mondal
Samir Mondal was born in 1952 in a Bengali village named Balti He graduated from the Government Art College in 1975 Graduating at the brink of youthful rebelliousness in the Bengal School of Art and Calcutta Group, Mondal boldly experimented with different techniques His greatest contribution was the sustained revival of watercolour in his generation He is also known as ‘The Watercolour Man’ He invested watercolours with the integrity of oils Mondal has exhibited widely in India as well as Germany He collaborated with poet and media person Pritish Nandy on several projects as well as created the Mulla Naseeruddin series for The Illustrated Weekly He was awarded by the Government College of Arts, Calcutta numerous times
