Satadru Sovan Banduri
The multi-disciplinary artist Satadru Sovan Banduri was born on the 2nd of December, 1973 in Delhi He graduated from Kala Bhavan, Visva Bharati University in 1998 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts He finished his Master’s from the same university in 2000 He started exploring digital art and new media early on and even received the prestigious Full Bright fellowship in Visual Arts to undertake work and research at the University of California in Santa Cruz He constantly explores the theme of restricted and latent sexuality prevalent in India through his work Not only that but he also questions the very meaning of sexuality and gender identity in this modern age Another theme that he frequently revisits is the effects of living in a consumer-driven world Amidst all the serious questioning of social norms, there is always a tinge of humour present in his work This is apparent with some of the titles he chooses for his work like ‘Tere Mere Beech me’, ‘I am what I wear’, and ‘It’s the time to disco’ He has had several international exhibitions like at the Lincoln Centre, New York; The Museum of Art and History, Santa Cruz and at various other locations like Korea, South Africa, and Germany The artist lives and works in New Delhi
