Born in Suffern, NY, USA, in 1977, Schandra Singh completed BFA Honors from Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, RI in 1999 apart from receiving MFA Yale University School of Art, New Haven, CT in 2006 The artist’s select exhibitions include one at galerie bertrand & gruner, Geneva, Switzerland (solo, 2008); ‘SCOPE New York’, Lincoln Center, USA (2007); ‘Around and Around 1000 Times’, RARE, New York (solo, 2007); Selected Artist Show, Baumgartner Gallery, New York, USA (2006); Summer Show 2006, Baumgartner Gallery, New York, USA (2006); Holiday Show, Baumgartner Gallery, New York (2006), and MFA Exhibition, Yale University School of Art Gallery, USA (2006) Schandra Singh’s recent large-scale paintings address the issue of escapism as a means of coping with suffering The artist’s characters are struggling to manage their inner conflicts and crises by running away from their sense of guilt, fears or responsibilities through various types of leisure activities
