Shahid Parvez
Shahid Parvez, born in 1970 in Udaipur, is a contemporary Indian painter whose vibrant compositions celebrate the joy, colour and storytelling traditions. Infused with a sense of childlike wonder yet grounded in mature reflection, his paintings transform everyday life into imaginative narratives populated by whimsical figures, animals and festive scenes. Drawing inspiration from the folk and tribal arts of his native region and has created works that honour cultural memory while embracing a distinctly contemporary visual language.
Parvez earned a Master's degree in Drawing and Painting with a Gold Medal from Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Udaipur, in 1993, and later qualified for the UGC National Eligibility Test. Alongside his artistic practice, he serves as an Assistant Professor of Visual Arts at the College of Social Science and Humanities, Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Udaipur.
Since the early 1990s, Parvez has exhibited his work in India and abroad. His solo exhibitions have been presented at leading venues including Dhoomimal Art Centre, New Delhi, Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai, LTG Art Gallery, New Delhi, Galerie Le Volcan in Paris, Llanover Hall Arts Centre in Cardiff, and galleries in Australia, Spain, Switzerland, China and the Netherlands. He has also participated in numerous national and international exhibitions, establishing a significant presence on the global contemporary art scene.
A recipient of several prestigious honours, including the Maharana Raj Singh Award, the Rajasthan Lalit Kala Akademi State Artist Award, the AIFACS Scholarship Award and the Royal West of England Academy Award.
