For Shambhavi Singh, the ordinary is never merely ordinary. A clay pot, a field of grain, or a lone tree becomes a vessel for memory, resilience, and the unseen rhythms of life. Born in 1966, Singh received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the College of Fine Arts and Crafts, Patna, in 1986, before completing her Master of Fine Arts at the College of Arts, New Delhi, in 1992. An experience that further expanded her artistic practice and international engagement came in 2001, when she was an artist-in-residence at Greatmore Studios in Cape Town, South Africa.

Among her most celebrated bodies of work is the Ghatak series, in which the humble clay pot becomes a powerful metaphor linking the microcosmic and the macrocosmic. Inspired by the poetry of the fifteenth-century mystic Kabir and a memorable scene from Satyajit Ray's Pather Panchali, the series explores the relationship between materiality, emptiness and human existence. Through monumental canvases and carefully conceived sculptural works, Singh encourages viewers to embark on a journey of self-exploration while recalling shared experiences of livelihood, resilience and memory.

Singh has exhibited her works in India and internationally, with solo exhibitions at Talwar Gallery in New Delhi and New York, Vadehra Art Gallery, and the Association for Visual Arts in Cape Town. She continues to live and work in New Delhi, where her multidisciplinary practice remains a significant voice in contemporary Indian art.
