Shilo Shiv Suleman
Born in 1989, Shilo Shiv Suleman is an Indian contemporary artist from Karnataka, India She studied animation at the Srishti School of Art, Design, and Technology in 2011 Through her artwork, she explores the interaction between the body and art by intersecting it with magical realism, nature, art, culture, technology, feminine energy, and social justice
As a child, Suleman was inspired by her mother Nilofer Suleman, an eminent Indian contemporary painter Her artistic career began at age 16, after her first illustrated children’s book was published and by age 20, she published over 10 books In 2012, her interest in technology due to the boom around the iPad, led to her developing ‘Khoya’, a series on the iPad This work started gaining recognition after her talk at Ted Global which got under a million views
Pulse and Bloom’, her collaboration with neuroscientist Rohan Dixit in 2014, an interaction between brainwaves and biofeedback sensors was well received Suleman received several grants including an honorarium grant from Burning Man for 'Pulse and Bloom' She has been featured by BBC, Rolling Stone, MSNBC, Tech Crunch, The Guardian, WIRED, and more Shilo Shiv Suleman is the founder and director of the Fearless Collective, an art collective engaging in gender issues and art for social change
