Sujith S N
Born in 1979 in Baroda, Gujarat, India, Sujith SN earned his MFA from the University of Hyderabad's Sarojini Naidu School of Fine Arts, Performing Arts, and Communication in 2007 He also holds a BFA from the University of Calicut's College of Fine Arts, Thrissur, obtained in 2005, along with a diploma in civil draughtsmanship
Sujith SN is a visual artist whose creations delve into the spatial rhythms and territorial boundaries inherent in contemporary urban landscapes, ultimately exploring their connection to violence His artistic exploration revolves around the intricate interplay between politics and architecture, examining their impact on modern societies Specifically, he delves into how the architecture of today shapes the political, social, and cultural behaviours of its inhabitants Growing up in various South Indian cities during a period of rapid urbanisation deeply influences his practice, as does his background as a draughtsman in the construction industry
His artworks have been featured in group exhibitions such as "The Map is not Territory" at Latitude 28, "Relative Visa" at Bodhi, "Indian Subway" at Grosvner Vadehra, London, and numerous others at Sakshi Gallery and Gallery OED Sujith SN held his inaugural solo exhibition, titled "The City and the Tower," at Sakshi Gallery in 2008 Throughout his career, he has received several awards, including the Kerala Lalit Kala Academy Special Mention Award in 2004, the Kerala Lalit Kala Academy State Award in 2005, and the Foundation of Indian Contemporary Art Emerging Artist Award in 2011 He was also part of the Khoj Kolkata Artists Residency in 2009 and a finalist for the Sovereign Asia Art Prize in 2019
Currently residing and working in Mumbai, India, the artist continues to explore the dynamic intersection of art, architecture, and societal transformation
