Sumedh Rajendran
Born in 1972 in Trivandrum, Sumedh Rajendran completed his BFA from College of Fine Arts, Trivandrum in 1994 and MFA from Delhi College of Art in 1999 Among his selected solo shows are ‘Chemical smuggle’, Grosvenor Vadehra gallery, London (2007); ‘Final call’, Anant Art Gallery, New Delhi (2006); ‘Street fuel blackout’, Sakshi Gallery, Mumbai (2006), and ‘Pseudo-homelands’, Rohtas Art Gallery, Lahore (2005), among other shows He has also featured in various group shows at Bodhi Art Gallery, Mumbai (2006); ‘Paper flute’, Gallery Espace, New Delhi (2006); ‘Satyagraha’, New Delhi & Durban (2006), ‘Double Enders’, Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai (2005), and ‘Span’, Sakshi Gallery, Mumbai (2005) Among the residency and awards he has won are Hat residency program, university of Manchester (2007); Theertha International Residency, Colombo (2006); Khoj International Artists Residency, New Delhi (2003); Junior Research Fellowship, Government of India (1998), and National Scholarship, Govt of India (1993) A seemingly uneasy interface of the artist’s composite imagery, surfaces as well as structures tends to generate meanings with its references to the socio-political situations The process of constant negotiations with the changing circumstances and the situational contrasts recur in his works He lives and works in Noida (Uttar Pradesh)
