Tarak Garai
Born in 1946, Tarak Garai is a highly accomplished senior artist known for his expertise in sculpture and painting During his years of study at Kala Bhavana, Visva Bharati, Santiniketan, he received guidance from the master artist Ramkinkar Baij His artistic focus centers on the intriguing dynamics of the mother-child relationship, inspired by his observations of how tribal mothers seamlessly balanced work and childcare Upon relocating from a small town to Kolkata, he noticed a stark contrast in the urban setting, where caring for one's child was viewed as a duty This disparity prompted him to portray the unique bond between tribal women and their children, a recurring theme in many of his sculptures

Tarak Garai has extensively worked with various mediums such as terracotta, wood, and stone, with a particular fondness for bronze Notably, he prefers to cast his sculptures at his own foundry, showcasing over 40 years of dedicated research into the intricacies of bronze casting

Throughout his career, Tarak Garai has actively participated in numerous national and state-level exhibitions He has also held 15 solo shows, including those at prestigious venues such as Jehangir Art Gallery in Bombay (1990), Habitat Gallery in New Delhi (1990), and Genesis Art Gallery in Kolkata (1993) His artistic achievements have been recognized with awards from the Academy of Fine Arts in 1970 and the All India Fine Arts & Crafts Society in 1988
