V G Venugopal
Born in 1976, V G Venugopal is a Bangalore-based multidisciplinary visual artist and educator whose practice spans drawing, painting, printmaking, installation, and video art. Over the past two decades, he has developed a dynamic and evolving body of work that reflects both technical rigour and conceptual exploration across mediums.

Venugopal completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from the Chamarajendra Academy of Visual Arts in 1998, followed by a Master of Fine Arts in Printmaking from the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath in 2000. His academic training laid a strong foundation for his engagement with both traditional and contemporary practices, enabling him to move fluidly between disciplines. His works speak about the complexities of multi-layered urban living, issues of identity, migration, changing human relationships, in the present context, etc.

His solo exhibitions include Now Showing (2003) at Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath, Bangalore, and Monologues (2010) at Gallery Blue Spade, Bangalore. In addition to these, he has presented several solo projects and participated extensively in national and international exhibitions in countries such as Japan, Italy, China, the United States, Switzerland, and Poland.

Venugopal’s contributions have been recognised through numerous awards and scholarships, including the K. K. Hebbar Art Foundation Gold Medal, the National Scholarship from the Department of Culture, New Delhi, the Lalit Kala Akademi Scholarship, and the Karnataka Lalithkala Academy Award. His achievements also extend to international recognition, including the Magmart International Video Art Award in Naples.

Alongside his artistic practice, Venugopal has been deeply involved in art education. He has served as visiting faculty at several institutions in Bangalore, including SBMJC Centre for Visual Arts and TAKSHAA Academy for the Artist, and continues to teach visual arts to architecture students. Through both his art and pedagogy, he contributes significantly to contemporary visual culture in India.
