Alfredo James "Al" Pacino (born April 25, 1940) is an American actor of stage and screen, filmmaker and screenwriter. Often considered by audiences and commentators to be one of the greatest actors of all time. Al Pachino shot to fame when he was approached by Director Francis Ford Coppola, who cast him as Michael Corleone in the blockbuster Mafia film The Godfather (1972). Al Pacino's performance earned him an Academy Award nomination. The film was the box office leader for 1972 and was, for a time, the highest-grossing picture ever made. It won three Academy Awards for that year:Best Picture, Best Actor (Brando) and in the category Best Adapted Screenplay for Puzo and Coppola. The movie went on to become one among the iconic movies of all time. The success spawned two sequels: The Godfather Part II in 1974, and The Godfather Part III in 1990.
