The designs adopted in this rug consist predominately of foliate formations that originated during the Shah Abbas period. With a medallion in the centre, this Kashan weave is curvilinear in nature while the colour composition includes soft greens and blue detailed on red ground. The Persian asymmetrical knots methodology was adopted while executing this silk rug.

Established as one of the oldest carpet weaving hubs, Kashan shares its namesake with the city, which is situated in the northern part of Isfahan province, Iran. Kashan’s design roots can be traced back to the 17th century, although a few experts posit that it could even be the 16th century.

This lot is a National Art Treasure - Non Exportable Item.
