AstaGuru’s upcoming auction ‘Next Gen’ will feature emerging artists instrumental in reshaping the landscape of Indian contemporary art. These artists not only showcase immense mastery of technique but also present the diversity in self-expression and creativity that can be seen in Contemporary Indian Art today. 

The curated collection will feature several artists being auctioned at AstaGuru for the first time including B R Bodade, Diptish Ghosh Dastidar, S Gopinath, Parvathi Nayar, Gaurab Das, Bhawana Choudhary, Eleena Banik, amongst others. 

Presented below are artworks by these emerging artists - 

Lot no. 32: Harmony in Diversity by Amit Lodh

The presented lot is an acrylic on canvas work by Amit Lodh, showcasing his mastery of printmaking, affinity for vibrant colours, and decorative patterns. The artist is known for depicting several phases of life in one composition. He views mass culture as inspiration while effortlessly showcasing the individual subjects and objects. 

Lot no. 33: Untitled by Santosh Kumar Verma

Santosh Kumar Verma is a talented artist with a unique style of his own. His paintings display an interplay of light and shape. The presented untitled lot is an acrylic on canvas work belonging to his series of abstract paintings with overlapping motifs. Verma completed his MA in Fine Arts from Benaras Hindu University and has received several honours for his works throughout his career including the National Academy Award of Lalit Kala Akademi in 2001.

Lot no. 52: Cut Out for Hard Work by Arzan Khambatta

The presented sculpture by architect and sculptor Arzan Khambatta was executed in 2016 with iron. Khambatta utilises metal sheets, pipes, rods, and several other mediums to bring his vision to life. He was inspired to sculpt at an early age after attending an art class by eminent artist Anand Mohan Naik.  

Lot no. 61: Untitled (Shatranj) by Diptish Ghosh Dastidar

Dastidar’s paintings offer the viewer a unique experience as the perspective of his compositions is from the ground looking up. Dastidar’s paintings offer a unique view - that from the ground looking up - into the lives of his subjects. His art radiates with a sense of wonder and showcases the artist’s own life experiences. Executed in 2007, this acrylic on canvas is a fine example of this. 

Lot no. 88: Ripple I, II, III (Triptych) by Parvathi Nayar

The presented work by Parvathi Nayar, a visual artist and creative writer, was executed with graphite on linen. Nayar is known for her multifaceted black-and-white graphite drawings seen through the prism of science and technology. She uses macroscopic and microscopic perspectives to explore the intimacy of our inner workings and the public nature of outer spaces. 

AstaGuru will present the next edition of its ‘Next Gen’ Contemporary Art Auction with over 100 works by leading and famous contemporary artists. Works by eminent contemporary Indian artists such as Anish Kapoor, Atul Dodiya, Subodh Gupta, Jitish Kallat, Nataraj Sharma, Valay Shende, Suryakant Lokhande, Ranbir Singh Kaleka, Surendran Nair, Bose Krishnamachari, Jagannath Panda, Baiju Parthan, Jayashree Chakravarty, Sheila Makhijani, G R Iranna and Sudhir Patwardhan will also be on offer. The auction is scheduled to take place on April 8-9, 2024.
