contemporary art featured in astaguru’s upcoming ‘international icon’ art auction

AstaGuru’s upcoming ‘International Icon’ auction will be showcasing works of eminent global artists from around the world. The detailed catalogue features works by acclaimed artists including Yayoi Kusama, Keith Haring, Salvador Dalí, René Magritte, Pablo Picasso, Amedeo Modigliani, and Alexander Calder, among others. The auction is scheduled for July 19-20, 2024. Shared below are a few contemporary artworks that will be featured in our upcoming auction:

Lot no. 15: Hi Konnichiwa (Hello! Goro) by Yayoi Kusama

Kusama’s work is characterised by repetitive patterns such as polka dots and “infinity nets,” that create a sense of endlessness and immersion. Her art explores themes of identity, obsession, and the human condition through surreal and psychedelic imagery. The presented lot no. 15 titled 'Hi Konnichiwa (Hello! Goro)' is a painted styrofoam and urethane resin work by Yayoi Kusama, executed in 2005.

Lot no. 16: Circle Spin Painting by Damien Hirst

Damien Hirst is a distinguished British artist known for his provocative and often controversial artworks. Some of his most famous works include installations featuring preserved animals in formaldehyde, such as sharks and cows sliced into sections. His spin paintings showcase his interest in experimentation, process-driven art-making, and the intersection of art and technology. The presented lot no. 16 titled 'Circle Spin Painting' by Damien Hirst is an acrylic on paper work, executed in 2009.

Lot no. 25: Balloon Dogs (Yellow, Magenta, Orange) (Ed: 1763-2300) by Jeff Koons

Koons frequently incorporates imagery from popular culture into his artworks, including references to toys, comic book characters (like Popeye), and everyday consumer goods. His art often celebrates and critiques consumerism and mass media. The balloon dog sculptures play with themes of childhood innocence, celebration, and the fleeting nature of joy. The presented lot no. 25 titled 'Balloon Dogs (Yellow, Magenta, Orange) (Ed: 1763-2300)’ is a porcelain work, executed in 2017 by Jeff Koons.

Lot no. 19: Blue Protection (ED: 3-8) by Dasha

Artist and architecture enthusiast couple, Dan and Shana Benchetrit, began their Miami-based luxury atelier DASHA as a way of channelling their respective visions. They were both highly inspired by the concepts of spirituality and symbolic talismans across cultures, resulting in their series of awe-inspiring sculptures. The presented lot no.19 titled 'Blue Protection (ED: 3-8)' by Dasha is a resin work, in a vibrant blue, meant to invoke serenity, executed in 2021.

Lot no. 20: Bonbon Drapeau Inde (India Flag Candy) by Laurence Jenkall

The presented lot no. 20 titled 'Bonbon Drapeau Inde (India Flag Candy)' by Laurence Jenkall is a plexiglass work, executed in 2017. Jenkell's sculptures are created through a meticulous process of layering and moulding resin, which is then polished to achieve a glossy finish that resembles candy wrappers. This technique gives her sculptures a tactile quality and enhances their visual allure, making them appear fragile and enticing. These sculptures represent themes of consumerism, childhood innocence, and the cultural significance of sweets in various societies.
