Highlights from our Opulent collectibles auction

As you are already aware, this January, we are introducing a new category to our diverse portfolio. This segment will feature rare and vintage furniture and home decor items. Titled ‘Opulent Collectibles’ the upcoming auction will feature 50 lots, with items from India, Japan, China, United Kingdom, Italy and France. The auction catalogue has a great mix of local craftsmanship and pieces designed by prominent houses. Several of the lots present in the auction are designed by the maker F.C Osler.
Established in Birmingham, UK in 1807 by Thomas Osler and his two sons, Follet and Clartson, with premises in Great Charles Street, the F & C Osler firm was a manufacturer of great prominence in England during the 19th century. Synonymous with creating the purest and most delicate quality crystal chandeliers, massive glass structures, including tables and thrones, fountains and furniture, the firm got recognition as the best glassmakers globally. The heyday of the company was between the mid- 19th century to the early 20th century. With a rigorous apprentice regime, F&C Osler employed master artisans who deftly created each crystal masterpiece. Their clientele included Royalty and elite families from all over the world.
Furthermore, the Maharajas of India also fancied their creations, right from the mid-19th century almost all the leading palaces of India carried the Osler’s’ handiwork. A prime example of this is Lot No 32 from our upcoming auction. This floor candelabrum by F & C Osler was initially a part of the Mysore Palace collection. The candelabrum has a minaret dome pinnacle made in crystal and all the wall shades have the initials of the Mysore Palace imprinted.

In 1920, F & C Osler were forced to retire, and since then have become the most sought-after crystal in the world. Another beautiful floor candelabra by F. & C. Osler is Lot No. 15 from our upcoming auction. This two-tiered finely cut Osler has suspended spear crystals with beads. The candelabra, belonging to circa late 19th century, falls under the National Treasure Act and cannot be exported out of India. F&C Osler created ornate thrones and multiples tablewares, but the firm’s stunning Chandelier designs catapulted them to fame.

Lot No. 24 from our upcoming auction is a testament to Osler’s excellence. It is a pair of chandeliers from circa late 19th century. A fine English cut-glass, pair of 6 light chandeliers made in the purest and white quality crystal with six arms hung throughout with spikes. The arms are heavily faceted and frosted cut-glass bowls, along with finely etched crystal shades. The second smaller canopy has 12 spear crystals with beads. The bottom tier comes with six arms and six wall shades with bulbs and suspended spear crystals with beads.

Another F & C Osler design that is part of our upcoming auction is Lot No. 20, an assembled crystal pouffe. This pouffe is from circa late 19th century and has heavily faceted diamond cut glass crystal legs, surrounded with finely cut glass crystal rim on edge.

The upcoming auction has other furniture and home decor items designed by Baccarat, some antique Japanese Satsuma Vases and more.
